County-level map details where sun shines the most and the least in the lower 48 states

July is the sunniest month of the year, while the sun shines the least during December and January, with July 8 being the sunniest day of the year and Dec. 26 being the least sunniest, according to county-level data from 1979 to 2011 from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Christopher Ingraham reports for The Washington Post.
